Vehicle data sources and licensing

The official and open datasets behind DragGap, what each source proves, and where modelled estimates begin.

U.S. EPA FuelEconomy.gov

The primary configuration feed covers EPA-certified U.S. passenger cars and light trucks from model year 1984 onward. DragGap uses its year, make, model, engine displacement, cylinders, transmission, drivetrain, fuel type and certified economy fields. Read the EPA service documentation.

NHTSA vPIC

The Vehicle Product Information Catalog cross-checks modern make, model, year and vehicle-type identity using manufacturer-submitted U.S. data. Read the vPIC API documentation.

Open Vehicle Specs supplement

The vehicle-makes-models repository supplies global generation and engine fields under the Open Database License 1.0. Supplemental matches are clearly labelled and never presented as EPA-certified measurements.

Coverage limitation

No free database contains every global trim together with verified power, weight, aerodynamics and instrumented acceleration. DragGap therefore labels provenance at field level and provides a verified-spec editor for vehicles outside provider coverage.
